New observations of 53 Persei

چکیده
We gathered 37 new spectra of the B star 53 Persei spread over approximately 2 years. On these data, we performed a frequency and a mode analysis. We determined the physical parameters of 53 Persei and placed the star in the theoretical SPB instability strip. We also analysed the 110 photometric observations of the Hipparcos satellite. Our results show the presence of the two frequencies often quoted in the literature ν1 = 0.461 c/d, ν2 = 0.594 c/d and a third frequency ν3 = 0.471 c/d which was first proposed by Mills & Dukes (1994). It is the first time that two studies result in the same third frequency based on two different data sets. The mode analysis provides evidence for l1 = 1 or l1 = 2 for the dominant mode, supporting the conclusions of Smith & Huang (1994).

53 Persei : a slowly pulsating B star ?
A new investigation of the behaviour of the star 53 Per was performed. New photometric observations allow to confirm twodominant periods p1=2.16 d, p2= 1.67 d.A third one p3= 3.64 d is detected. These long period variations are present in our radial velocities data and in old equivalent width data. The amplitude of the p1 = 2.16 d period increases from 1977 to 1991, while the amplitude of the 1...
متن کاملTerrestrial Zone Debris Disk Candidates in H and Χ Persei
We analyze 8 sources with strong mid-infrared excesses in the 13 Myr-old double cluster h and χ Persei. New optical spectra and broadband SEDs (0.36-8 μm) are consistent with cluster membership. We show that material with T∼300-400 K and Ld/L⋆ ∼10 -10 produces the excesses in these sources. Optically-thick blackbody disk models including those with large inner holes do not match the observed SE...

متن کاملX - ray observations of the slowest known Be / X - ray pulsars RX J 0146 . 9 + 6121 and X
We present ASCA and ROSAT observations of the Be/X-ray binary pulsars RX J0146.9+6121 and X Persei between 1990 and 1996. Measuring the neutron star spin period and X-ray luminosity of X Persei shows that the episode of low X-ray luminosity and monotonic spin-down since 1978 continued to at least August 1995. ASCA and ROSAT HRI observations of RX J0146.9+6121 detected the pulsar with the longes...
متن کاملNew emission phase of the Be / X - ray binary X Persei : nearly simultaneous spectroscopic and near - infrared observations
We present a series of optical spectroscopic and near-infrared photometric observations of the Be star X Persei, from the beginning of the recent emission phase. Our data show that after the latest extended low state (ELS), both the equivalent width (EW) of the Hα emission line and the JHK luminosities gradually increased. The recent maximum Hα EW and JHK magnitudes are more than but comparable...
